Tone

Inline studio note

We listen for contact point, bow speed, and left-hand calm before chasing repertoire speed. Adults improve faster when tone is the weekly north star.

House of Vine Egret teaches violin to adults who want chamber-friendly sound, not contest choreography. Lessons include slow scales with drone, short etudes, and pieces chosen for your hand span and reading comfort.

Vienna evenings suit focused practice after work. Many students arrive with a short list of goals — cleaner shifting, calmer vibrato, or a salon piece for friends — and leave with pencil marks that make home practice specific.

We keep the room adult-only so pacing and conversation stay appropriate. No audition jury on the first visit: only a hearing of what you can play today and a plan for the next four lessons.

Questions

Do you teach absolute beginners?

Yes. We start with posture, bow hold, and open strings before notation density increases. Adults often learn steadily when lessons stay patient.

Is this a children’s school?

No. Programming is adult-only so repertoire and scheduling stay age-appropriate.

How long is a lesson?

Usually 45 or 60 minutes by appointment at 21 Cedar Lane. Longer slots appear when repertoire needs a full run-through.

What should I practice between visits?

You leave with a short written focus: bars, tempos, and tone checks. Vague “play more” goals are replaced with measurable steps.
